A few months ago, I discovered that a serious love for Honey Butter Flavored Chips existed in Korea. It's all the rage and apparently they're always sold out too. I'm a little late to the party since the craze started a little over a year ago. But honey and butter combined in a chip?
So today at my local H Mart, I found two knock-offs since the original Calbee brand wasn't being sold (but you can find them on Amazon). I got Ajumma Republic's Sweet Butter Chip (there was a picture of honey on the package) and Crown's Honey Cheese Chips.
The verdict: The Sweet Butter Chips had almost no flavor to them. There was a tiny hint of butter and sweetness. But they basically just tasted like potato chips.
The Honey Cheese Chips had way more punch in flavor. It kind of reminded me of Ruffles Cheese and Sour Cream chips but not as stinky. The sweetness is evident and works surprisingly well with the cheese flavor. (And I just became aware of the Korean obsession with cheese in everything. Ramen + cheese? That'll be for another day...)
Maybe I'll need to try the real thing because after reading some reviews online, people quickly jumped on the Honey Butter Chip bandwagon.
Until then, you'll see me grabbing for my usual pig out food: Cool Ranch Doritos.
