I kept wondering what a kolache was when I first moved here to Houston two months ago. I would often see signs for a place called The Kolache Factory. I seriously thought it was a store that sold random lil knick knacks. Finally, I googled it and found out it was food!
Kolache: a pastry popular in Texas that originated from the Czech Republic and is filled with fruit or sausage/cheese/jalapeños/other yummy goodness.
Gay bf and Twin Sista told me kolaches aren't only found in their own lil shops but also in donut shops. Kolaches+donuts=Bffs.
I first attempted to try a kolache a few weeks ago on a trip home from Target only to find out The Kolache Factory was only open from the morning til mid-afternoon. Poop. I was too late.
I finally decided to plan a field trip to eat kolaches with Erin and Twin Sista this morning. They took me to a place called Christy's Donuts and Kolaches.
located at: 1103 W Gray St, Montrose, Houston, TX |
Inside my kolache was a jalapeño stuffed sausage, actually 1/2 a sausage cut lengthwise. There was also some yummy yellow melted cheese. These were packaged nicely in a soft bread so it was hard not to compare my breakfast to a hot dog. Kolache=the breakfast hot dog?!? It was salty and perfectly delicious.
You can't go wrong with a plain, glazed donut. Also perfectly delicious.
Next adventure: try a fruit filled kolache and a lunch kolache (The Kolache Factory offers Pepperoni, Philly Cheese Steak, and other non-breakfast ones!)
I'm literally sitting here in a food-less apartment, drooling. I DROOLED ON MY MOUSE PAD. I'm an animal.
ReplyDeleteit's the sausage, right? (wink wink)
ReplyDeleteHey, check out the Kolache Shoppe on Telephone Road. I grew up stopping there on our way to school in the mornings. I haven't had better sausage Kolache anywhere.
